Give new paper a short test.

Write a line on a spare sheet from your notebook. Let it dry, check the reverse for show-through and try any highlighter or eraser you plan to use. A lighter touch helps protect the point and keeps the page comfortable to write on.

Close or retract the writing point when you finish. Keep pens away from heat and avoid pressing hard to force a wider line.
